Issue 1

This issue presents the editorial project of Il Foglio Numismatico and defines its aims: to explore the history of numismatic literature, reconstruct the processes through which knowledge of coinage has developed, and bring attention to often overlooked works, authors, and historical evidence. Un periodico per la letteratura numismatica introduces this perspective, alongside contributions devoted to the Zecche italiane rappresentate nella raccolta del Dr Solone Ambrosoli, the rare series Ricordi di una passione, and the plates of the Corpus Nummorum Italicorum produced by the Pettinaroli Printing House. The issue concludes with a reflection on the scholarly value of booksellers’ sales catalogues, regarded as commercial instruments as well as valuable sources for documenting the circulation and preservation of the numismatic bibliographical heritage.
