This issue is devoted to Monete cufiche battute da principi longobardi, normanni e svevi nel Regno delle Due Sicilie, published in Naples in 1844 by Domenico Spinelli with contributions from the brothers Michele and Giuseppe Tafuri. The study reconstructs the work’s scholarly and publishing context, also examining the manuscript copy produced by Giuseppe Ruggero in 1900 and a letter sent by Michele Tafuri to Carlo Ottavio Castiglioni in 1847, reproduced in full. The issue is completed by presentations of the intaglio plates used to produce the work’s illustrations and of the catalogue of the Tafuri collection, a record of the holdings that formed one of the principal documentary foundations of Spinelli’s work.
